Boot camp was a great experience to build on our testimonies. We pushed ourselves physically and spiritually, tried new activities, and expanded our circle of friends.
Please leave a comment with some of your favorite memories from camp. What activities did you like best? What life lessons were learned?
I liked the shotgun shooting activity the best. I thought the staff instructor was a good coach and most of the young men were able to hit the clay. In many of the shooting groups he compared shooting clays to life - get ready, take aim, and lean into it.
ReplyDeleteMy hardest and most stressful experience was arranging the drivers for the hike Thursday morning. We wanted to ferry the young men as far as we could up the mountain so they would only have a 4-5 mile hike. Because we didn't know the vehicles people would take to camp, or their capacity, it was impossible to plan these ferry trips beforehand. We took a car and driver inventory at the Wednesday night, and after a prayer we buckled in to arranging the drivers. We finished in the early morning hours. The next morning, just before we started sending groups on their way, we noticed a double booked vehicle that through off the schedule. It was too late to fix the problem. We anticipated having to hold groups back to wait for drivers. Yet, every time there was a gap in the schedule, a leader who was not on my list would walk by and ask if an extra driver was needed, or shuttle drivers would return just at that moment to carry another group. The last zone left only 15 minutes later than expected. I felt we had been blessed, and our prayers had been answered.
