Recharter Materials

Hello good brethren of the Manila Stake,

Last week during Round Table/Stake Corners there was uncertainty as to when our re-chartering was to be completed. The purpose of this email is to clarify that point, and to encourage you to continue focusing on your re-chartering efforts.

After discussing with the Scout Office, we concluded that it would help a number of Wards if we moved the “Stake Turn-in Meeting” from Thursday Oct 27th to Thursday Nov 10th (i.e. 2 extra weeks).

I’ve attached two documents which I hope will help you as you progress through the process of re-chartering for next year.

Our schedule for the “Stake Turn-in Meeting” on Thursday Nov 10th is as follows:

Location: Our Stake Center

Who: Each Ward at specified time – The primary person who should attend is the person that worked on the data entry (generally the COR or the Scout Committee Chair).  Others to attend to help with the data verification could be the Ward YM presidency.

What: Turning in hard-copy of your four, signed, charter packets.

2017 High Adventure Proposals

As has been done in recent years, each priest and teacher's quorum needs to present their proposal for a high adventure activity to the stake presidency. These are brief presnetations, about 30 minutes, that will allow the young men to explain their priesthood purpose for the activity, approximate costs, and other basic plans.

A schedule for the presentations is presently being created, but will occur in late October and early November.

This is a link to a powerpoint template you can use.

Please leave a comment with some of your favorite memories from camp. What activities did you like best? What life lessons were learned?

Boot Camp Lost and Found

Lots of gear was lost and found at Boot Camp. Some of it was brought HQ, other stuff was kept by the zone advisors. If you have lost stuff or if you are missing something, please make a note in the comments below.

What should zones be doing before Boot Camp?

The following are items for each zone to complete and have ready before we leave for Boot Camp.  Your preparation personally, and as a zone, will make a difference for a greater growth experience at camp.
  1. If you’ve not done so, have an activity or meet as a zone leadership (zone leaders, district leaders, advisors).  And carry out the following:
  • Provide training for any ZL or DL who has not received it
  • Establish zone identity,  reviewing life of Book of Mormon person who zone is named after
  • Create banner/flag/title
  • Pick district names
  1. Have a couple of introduction activities decided and ready to help zone members get know one another on Monday after the “Sorting” occurs.
  2. Decide how your zone will conduct morning prayer, scriptures, devotionals – as zones or districts? Who will lead them? How will you bring the spirit and challenge a “Mighty Change” to occur?
  3. Prepare a zone song and skit to practice with zone members and share at a Boot Camp campfire.
  4. Review zone gear list and make sure you have everything needed.
  5. Continue to encourage young men in your ward to carry out quorum prep activities. Help get them excited and prepared to attend Boot Camp.
Important Dates:
July 7 – Final check in meeting
7pm – Boot Camp Council meets
8pm – Boot Camp Adult leaders meet (advisors, quartermasters, activities, media)
July 11-15 – Boot Camp here we come!

Boot Camp Leadership Campout

Friday April 23rd is a Boot Camp Leadership Camp for all Boot Camp Council Members, Zone Leaders, and Zone Advisors.

Where will we be?
The camp will be at the Willow Park campground in Lehi, just west of Willow Creek middle school.

How will we get there?
We would ask the Zone Advisors to make arrangements to get the Zone Leaders to the camp. Remember two deep leadership. Additionally, please file an activity plan with your own wards for the travel. Please arrive at the at the park by 6pm on Friday.

What do I need to bring?
Bring a dinner for Friday night. There will be campfires if you want to cook, bring something from home, or buy something on your way there. Breakfast and treats will be provided.

Also bring -
A marshmallow roasting stick, or a way to make one.

A sleeping bag and pad

A tent. If you have a buddy going, you are welcome to share. We would ask zone advisors to help make sure the boys in their ward have a place to sleep.

Warm, dry night clothes

Rain gear, like a pancho and umbrella. It is probably going to rain on us - which will make the camp much more memorable.

A flashlight or headlamp

A notebook and something to write with.

Scriptures (Electronic or otherwise. You probably don't want to bring your nice leatherbound set.)

What facilities are available?
There are restrooms close to the camp.
There is no power.

What will we be doing?
We will be playing lots of games with a purpose. Besides having fun, we hope to get to know one another better, learn about our responsibilities at boot camp, and practice leading reflections.

What time will we finish?
You should be home before noon on Saturday.

Can I leave early?
Yes. We encourage you to stay the whole time, but parents are welcome to come pick their sons up any time. Please let one of the Stake YM Presidency know when you come get them so we can account for everyone.

President Livingston Invites Woodbadge Participation

From: Scott Livingston
Date: Sat, Oct 31, 2015 at 6:27 PM
Subject: Woodbadge 2016

My dear brothers and sisters -
Beginning tomorrow, November 1st, our stake-sponsored Wood Badge course will be opening for registration. This course will be held September 15-17 & 22-24, 2016 at Maple Dell. This is a wonderful opportunity to receive some of the most powerful and life-changing training you'll ever receive. Two other stakes will be joining us: Cedar Hills and Cedar Hills West. Spots fill up very quickly.
Each bishopric in our stake is formally assigned to attend Wood Badge sometime in the next year if you have not already attended. As the presidency of the Aaronic Priesthood, this is invaluable training that will impact the lives of countless youth as you implement what you are taught. The link below gives a glimpse into how Wood Badge can impact your work as a bishopric. I also invite all Young Women, Young Men and Primary leaders to also register to attend. If you can't attend our stake-sponsored course, you are encouraged to register for another course being held in 2016. Our vision is simple: We will be a Wood Badge stake, meaning that every leader that should receive this training will receive it.
Our course director will be Brother Curtis O'Reilly, of our stake high council. Sister Livingston and I will both be a part of this course - her as a participant and myself as a troop guide. We have many other fantastic leaders who will be providing the training for all attending.
I promise you that as you make the sacrifice required to participate in Wood Badge, you will become a better husband and father, wife and mother, and a more powerful and effective Priesthood leader. You will come to know the Savior more personally. And He will teach you personally, by the power of the Holy Ghost, what He has called you to do and how He will help you to do it. We look forward to seeing you at Wood Badge.
Here is the link to register. It will be active tomorrow.
